"Observation and consideration towards the subject and composition is paramount. Without the framework of a sound composition, I believe artwork remains incomplete. My preferred media are charcoal and oil, both of which offer an in-built flexibility and versatility. Through careful attention and practice my focus is to understand the subject matter and create more thoughtful and thought -provoking works. Inspired by light, the changing colours of the sky, and its effect, or reflections, on the rocks and sand, I try to capture an atmosphere, or fleeting mood, frequently finding this is evoked by the flatness of the sea and the quietness of the beach."
